Course Details

The Introduction to HP ProLiant Servers (HE643) is a two-day course provides essential HP ProLiant training to system administrators who are responsible for ProLiant ML, DL, and BL servers.

In this course, you will be presented with an overview of HP products, tools, agents, and utilities that will help them to set up, deploy, monitor, and maintain their ProLiant servers. Practical hands-on lab exercises are presented on an HP ProLiant BL460c Gen8 server.

Objectives

After completing this course, students should be able to:

  • Describe the HP ProLiant server portfolio and list some of the new features of the HP ProLiant Gen8 series
  • Describe the HP ProLiant server portfolio and list some of the new features of the HP ProLiant Gen8 series
  • Explain the boot process and configure a server by using the Option ROM (RBSU)
  • Explain how to use the HP Intelligent Provisioning in HP ProLiant Gen8 servers to configure and deploy an operating system to a single server
  • Explain how to use the HP Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) to update system firmware and software
  • Describe how to proactively manage an HP ProLiant server by means of continuous monitoring and maintenance
  • Explain how to use HP ProLiant Gen8 diagnostics tools and identify troubleshooting resources and procedures

After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Describe the HP ProLiant Server family
  • Identify the new features and technologies of HP ProLiant eighth-generation (Gen8) servers
  • List the operating systems supported on ProLiant servers

Module 2: HP integrated Lights-Out

  • Introduction to HP iLO 4 and its features
  • Review of the HP iLO Web Administration Interface
  • Introduction to the Integrated Remote Console
  • After completing this module, you should be able to:
  • Describe HP Lights-Out management
  • Explain HP integrated Lights-Out (iLO) 4 functionality
  • Identify key features included in the iLO Advanced license
  • Explain how to configure and use iLO and its Web Administration Interface
  • Describe the options in the HP Integrated Remote Console

Module 3: Configuration using Option ROM

  • Introduction to the HP ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) and the boot process
  • Features of the RBSU and configuration steps
  • Advanced iLO 4 configurations by means of the RBSU
  • Option ROM Configuration for Arrays (ORCA)
  • Accessing the RBSU and Intelligent Provisioning

Module 6: Continuous system monitoring

  • Introduction to the HP System Management Homepage (SMH)
  • Overview of HP Insight Diagnostics
  • Configuring iLO with the HPONCFG and CPQLOCFG utilities by using RIBCL XML scripts
  • Managing iLO with the SMASH CLP scripting language
